article by Wes Harbor Quad racing is expected to be a part of VORRA for years to come. The historical challenge for VORRA has been structuring events that appeal to more ATV enthusiasts. This branch of racing began sprouting roots in the shadow of the traditional Car & Truck Events that have already been growing for over 30 years now. That being said…. Our mission for 2010 is to transplant and nurture a new division of VORRA, placed out in the open where it has a chance to grow to its full potential. I’m sure the early stages will have bumps in the track, but the VORRA racer already knows our strengths or they wouldn’t be a member. The first two events of 2010 will be combined weekends. Our volunteer drive this spring will have new faces in the crowd that will need some time to learn what it takes to have a stand-alone race. At this time, Prairie City SVRA is under construction and additional fall dates are hinging on the Park’s approval and the project completion. We expect to be able to schedule at least two stand-alone ATV weekends at Prairie City for late 2010. The likelihood of desert racing with VORRA rides on the success of our recruitment efforts over the next few months. Secondary Short Course venues may be considered as well. The format of all this is a little freeform by design because we want to re-invent ATV racing within VORRA. Duplication will only be appropriate in select areas. My gut tells me that a short course series will be most appealing at first because it is open to a wider age range of riders, but the ATV community will ultimately decide their own course of action. Track type, rules, classes, fees, contingency, and many other concerns will now be customized to the ATV racer by a team dedicated exclusively to ATV racers. Whether you want to strap on a helmet and race to the next checkered flag or you want to join the VORRAteers and mold the experience for our next generation of ATV riders, the time is NOW.
