OK so here is a strange one. After starting the truck and running in the engine. Things have gone a bit strange. My timing was moving. Not that it was slipping it needed more initial advance just to make it run. I went from 18 to 22 then to 30 and now to 40. So after 2 months and swapping out to Mallory distributer pulling the cam and changing the gear set it turns out to be the brand new Blaster HVC coil was leaking internally. It worked, the pattern looked good on the scope just had a hard time getting the spark into the cylinder.

On to the distributer. MSD is now saying to coat the internals of there distributer with clear or any kind of paint to stop corrosion from the build up of Ozone.

Marty, I know that a lot of people have painted armatures with clear nail polish. I would check with MSD first, but I know that works for some electrical applications.
You aren't the first to have problems with MSD distributors. My next door neighbor had a time dialing his in as well. While patience may be a virtue, I always want to kill something or somebody in these situations. Patience is not my best suit.
What is that red stuff that looks like some sort of corossion?

The pictures are form one of my members off my bulletin board. And yes that is rust after 500 miles. MSD also says to drill 2 3/8 holes in the rotor at the same hight to keep the air stirring in there when running.

I had to read that twice before my slow lil mind got the fact that salt makes rust. I'm sorry you had to do that. How did it affect the performance?

Okay, guys. Color me stupid on this one. First of all, ozone now creates rust? I thought that was a function of liquid and iron. Second, Gimp buddy, how exactly do you seal a distributor? Do you put silicone around the base? Do you glue the lil door shut and seal it? I just can't wrap what lil brain I've got on that one.
Oh, and I'm sorry that you had those kind of problems.
